Crédit Agricole Transitions & Énergies (CAT&E), the Crédit Agricole Group subsidiary dedicated to the energy and environmental transition, has increased its stake in R3 to 70%. This majority acquisition marks a new stage in the collaboration initiated between the two players in 2023, built around a common target: accelerating the sustainable transition and strengthening the resilience of local businesses in the face of climate challenges.

Founded in 2021, R3 has rapidly established itself as a leader in the environmental and social performance of corporates, delivering concrete, high-impact solutions to more than 1,500 SMEs, MSEs and large corporates across all sectors. Drawing on an integrated approach that combines strategic advisory services, digital tools and financing solutions, R3 has built a comprehensive and unique offering focused on :

  • Carbon, climate-adaptation, and CSR expertise
  • Energy and environmental performance contracts
  • Financing solutions for energy-efficient, low-impact equipment
  • Operational support, from the development through to the execution of action plans

This operation is fully aligned with the ambitions of Crédit Agricole Transitions & Énergies: to offer comprehensive support to corporates and provide a system for all of the Group’s banking customers to meet their energy and environmental needs through concrete solutions including carbon assessments and energy audits, CSR and decarbonisation roadmaps, energy-efficiency upgrades, renewable energy projects, energy-carbon-ESG management and reporting platforms, and financing vehicles dedicated to impact-reduction projects. It thus reinforces the ambition of shaping regional development as part of Crédit Agricole Group’s commitments.

With 150 experts in transition-related matters, R3 brings Crédit Agricole Transitions & Energies the essential know-how it needs to achieve its ambitions and accelerate the roll-out of concrete, high-impact solutions.

This increased shareholding reflects the Crédit Agricole Group’s ambition to position itself as a leading player in the energy transition and climate adaptation landscape in France, relying on specialised partners and high-impact solutions.

“Crédit Agricole Transitions & Énergies’ majority stake marks a strategic turning point. Already a partner of the 39 Regional Banks, we are now taking a further step forwards by becoming the benchmark operator for the environmental and societal transition of Crédit Agricole Group customers. Together, we are demonstrating that environmental and economic performance can be placed on an equal footing, and become the standard for the French economy. This partnership gives us the means to scale up, and gives corporates the means to tackle major climate challenges while creating long-term value. This is not an evolution; it is an acceleration”, commented Frédéric Rodriguez, Founder and Chairman of R3.

“This project marks a new milestone in our strategic partnership with R3. It enables us to expand our capacity to support corporates and accelerate the roll-out of innovative solutions that combine consulting, support and financing for the energy and environmental transition. I am convinced that this operation will give both our entities the means to amplify their impact and address the major transition challenges facing corporates together”, said Jean-Paul Duhamel, Chief Executive Officer of Crédit Agricole Transitions & Énergies.
