Elements, a developer and owner of renewable energy assets, Eclipse, a specialist in optimising battery storage assets, and Crédit Agricole Transitions & Énergies, a key player in financing the energy transition, announce the establishment of a partnership around a hybrid project combining a photovoltaic power plant and a battery storage system.

In this context, Eclipse has been selected by Elements to optimise the value enhancement of the storage system, within an integrated set-up covering all electricity markets. Crédit Agricole Transitions & Energies is acting as arranger for the financing provided by Crédit Agricole Leasing & Factoring.

An integrated optimisation and valorisation solution

Eclipse will implement a comprehensive offering including:

  • the supply of electricity required for the site to operate
  • real-time balancing and scheduling of the asset as a BRP (Balance Responsible Party)
  • access to system services as a BSP (Balancing Service Provider)
  • dynamic optimisation of the battery across all markets (Day-Ahead, Intraday, system services and capacity mechanism)

This optimisation will finely integrate the specificities of coupling with the photovoltaic power plant, in particular:

  • variable and constrained injection profiles
  • grid connection limitations
  • charge/discharge co-ordination with a view to optimising TURPE

A secured financial structuring

As part of this partnership, Eclipse also provides a revenue guarantee (“floor”), enabling:

  • to secure part of the flows generated by the storage asset
  • to strengthen the project’s economic visibility

This structuring enabled Crédit Agricole Transitions & Énergies to arrange additional bank financing with Crédit Agricole Leasing & Factoring as lender and agent, to support the implementation and operation of this innovative asset.

An emblematic project of the new generation of hybrid assets

This partnership helps to accelerate the roll-out of flexible solutions, which are essential for the large-scale integration of renewable energies into the electricity system.

Pierre-Alexandre Cichostepski, President of Elements:
“This first storage project fully illustrates our strategy for developing flexibility assets, at the heart of the energy transition. By combining renewable generation and optimised storage capacity, we are strengthening our ability to offer integrated, resilient and value-creating solutions within an evolving electricity system.”

Augustin Derville, President of Eclipse:
“The coupling of storage infrastructure and renewable generation is set to become the norm in the years ahead. Eclipse is very proud to have been able to demonstrate the value of Flowstream, its storage asset optimisation platform, on one of the first hybrid projects in France. It will enable Elements to maximise the potential of its assets and better enhance the value of its green electrons.”

Gabriel Orio, Director of Transition Financing, Crédit Agricole Transitions & Énergies:
“This financing illustrates the ability of energy transition stakeholders to develop innovative models around hybrid assets, combining photovoltaic generation and energy storage. This type of infrastructure provides a practical response to the challenges of flexibility and integration of renewable energies within the electricity system ».
